A little breed history on Grizzly, a Leonberger, as he visits Trollgaard.
Grizzly is a 9 month old Leonberger. Named after the city Leonberg in Baden-Wurttemborg, Germany. The breed - according to legend - was bred as a "symbolic dog" that would mimic the lion in the town crest. A combination of Newfoundland, long haired Saint Bernard and Great Pyrenees gives the Leonberger it's great size. He is a devoted friend and lover of children. Fearless, with a deep bark and lion-like looks, he would dissuade an unsavory character to practice mischief elsewhere. Truth be known, he is a gentle giant to all that are known and loved by him.
The day Grizzly visited was perfect for him. Snowing and cold, the weather made him feel right at home as he was in his element. I guess "cold" is a relative term because Grizzly didn't notice it. It was easy to see his mountain heritage. He was happy to lie down in the snow and roll around in it as I shivered.
Most importantly, Grizzly has a heart of pure gold and is fun to watch as he romps around the exercise yard. I'm not sure he is aware of his great size as he cavorts with new acquaintances. A puppy in the body of a giant is a visual pleasure as he bounds around to and fro.
Grizzly is a peach to have at Trollgaard Dog Day Care and we look forward to his next visit!
